Featured Project: IJ White Systems
I.J. WHITE is located in Farmingdale, NY. This fully integrated manufacturing facility operates state-of-the-art Communications, Engineering, Design and Project Management Systems. By utilizing the latest technology, they offer the industries they serve customized solutions to exacting tolerances.
I.J. WHITE also offers a Complete Customer Support Program. The program is supported by engineers, trainers and technicians to provide system users with the most comprehensive and up to date training methods and tools.

Design
The Engine Room relaunch of I.J. White.com was concentrated around giving the client the ability to self-manage the site and it's content at any given time by non-technical staff. The site is built on a robust database architecture. All of it's functionality is designed to enhance the user experience while making it's administration similar to working with a word processing application like those already familiar to existing staff members.
Technology
Built upon Microsoft's ASP platform the site offers enterprise level performance and reliable up-time. A major component is the "Customer Portal", easy access for new and existing customers to gain entry to the vast collection of user manuals and technical bulletins offered by IJ White. The navigation design was approached so as to give the drill down process involved in a typical product search a smooth uncluttered experience.
Process
Engine Room Digital consulted with IJ White on the information architecture and user interface diagrams during the wire frame process. After several different design ideas were hashed out both Engine Room and the client settled on the current layout. Keeping in mind the importance of "clean" in the food processing industry we worked with an overall white space and clinical look to the site.
Previous Projects: Engineered Energy Solutions
Engineered Energy Solutions, LLC provides turnkey energy solutions for institutional clients. Their services include site survey, design, equipment procurement, installation and service. In addition they also provide research and secure grants and tax incentives and assist clients in adopting alternative and renewable energy technologies.
Design
The Engine Room redesign of Engineered Energy Solutions (EES) was to create an appealing website that had its own distinct personality while still fitting into the EES brand. The website colors and the placement of high-value graphics draw in the viewer, helping them decide on their area of interest. The pages are all designed to make it easier to find information by directing users to pools of content through engaging use of valuable resources like the historical weather data and energy savings calculator.

Technology
EES was looking for improved overall speed and a simpler, faster search function. The website architecture called for a simple layout while offering the viewer a intuitive navigation system. The goal was to reorganize information to help users find press releases, product and technology offerings, energy calculator quickly and efficiently. Main search and browse tools are featured prominently to help direct user tasks.
Process
Engine Room Digital consulted with EES on the information architecture and user interface diagrams for the website and as a result it has both a high visual appeal and a natural navigation that supports quick information searches.
From a selected navigation tab the visitor is presented with additional information on the product or service landing page including press releases and photos for that section, both for visual interest and as supporting information. The "Energy Savings Calculator" is designed to engage the visitor visually and yield a net energy savings that is specific to his/her industry or building specification. Additional cost saving details are hidden until a user registers with the site and are ultimately emailed the data allowing EES a follow-up call and a database of customer leads.
Building great and attention-grabbing designs are based upon a clear understanding of design and information usability principles. At the same time, websites must be aesthetically appealing and follow good visual design principles. Both of these traits are present in the EES website and are a hallmark of all Engine Room designed websites.
